Walk for Unity Published April 7, 2009 By CMSgt Danny Walker 184 IW/HRA Oct 12, 2008 -- On 12 October 2008, seven 184th IW Guardsmen volunteered to be a part of the Diversity Kansas Walk for Unity. Their involvement was recognized by Diversity Kansas for leading warm up exercises and also for handing out nearly 400 bobble head pens. By participating in this event, it allowed nearly 1500 people from our community to understand a little more of what the 184th Intelligence Wing and the Air National Guard is all about and that is we are very much about serving our community and being part of the bigger picture. The Walk for Unity primarily focuses on our community and how everyone can learn of the importance of tolerance, understanding each other and how each one of us brings unique perspectives and talents to the table, and embracing diversity. One of our challenges individually and also as a community is to move this understanding of each other beyond just one day but to place this in our everyday lives. Dan Ayres had this to say about the event: "This is a community event that really is for the whole family, balloons, ice cream, and face painting even a band prior to the walk. Some of Wichita's biggest employers had their folks out there in full force; the Guard Family should be there as well. It's something that our members can feel good about being a part of." Pam Russell also had this to say: "A great presence and opportunity to get involved with the local community...it was great seeing people from all different backgrounds and age groups."
