COLONEL JOE A. DESSENBERGER

 

Col Joe A. Dessenberger is the Vice Commander of the 184th Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas. He assists the commander in leading, managing and developing more than 1,300 Airmen who execute a broad spectrum of missions including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; cyberspace operations; and command and control, all of which greatly enhance the U.S. Air Force’s capability to provide actionable intelligence and cyberspace operations for combat forces around the globe.

Col Dessenberger entered the Air Force in 1987 as a missile systems maintenance technician, before transferring to the Air National Guard in 1989. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant before commissioning in 1999 through the Academy of Military Science. Col Dessenberger is a 1997 graduate of Friend’s University, and earned a Master’s Degree from Wichita State University in 2003. Col Dessenberger previously served as the 184th Mission Support Group Commander, 184th Regional Support Group Commander, has commanded three squadrons, and served as the 184th Wing’s Inspector General. Col Dessenberger deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and is a retired civilian police commander for a large metropolitan agency where he served in multiple command roles. Prior to his current position, the colonel was the 184th Mission Support Group Commander, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan.
