We're Here to Serve You
The Air National Guard is unique compared to other military services because we carry out several overarching missions. These include our federal mission, state mission, and community support.
Federal Mission – Serving a Nation at War
The 184th Wing develops and deploys strategic and tactical strength to the United States and American troops around the world. Our main components include mission support, battlefield intelligence, command and control, and cyberspace operations.
State Mission – Helping Neighbors in Crisis
The 184th Wing responds to natural and manmade disasters in 19 counties throughout Kansas when requested by civilian authorities. Disasters can include tornadoes, ice storms, floods and wildfires.
We also assist other states during times of disaster, be it hurricanes, earthquakes or even terrorist attacks. Assistance includes emergency management, security, medical, communications, civil engineering, and incident assessments.
Community Support – Serving Wichita and the Surrounding Area
Our Air National Guardsmen are invested in their communities, whether it’s small town or big city.
Many of our unit members were born and raised in Kansas. Others come here because they have to, but stay here because they want to.
Our love of community goes well beyond military service. Our Airmen volunteer hundreds of hours each year with local charities and non-profit organizations. They’re also civic leaders who selflessly serve in many capacities.
Think of any group that helps the community, and you’re bound to find a member of the 184th Wing.
