MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --
Jayhawks,
We want to thank you for your poise and strength as we witnessed the destruction from Friday’s tornado in Andover. You were ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Our fellow Kansans know they can rely on the 184th Wing when called upon.
We also want to thank you for your patience during the recall process. As you know, there are legal procedures we must follow before the Air National Guard can assist our civic partners. By standing ready, but remaining steadfast, you allowed first responders and local authorities the time and space needed to accurately evaluate the situation.
This allowed our civic partners in Butler County and Andover to effectively execute their emergency response plans. We admire the leadership of Butler County and Andover officials, and the quick reaction of first responders who assisted our families, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
Our hearts go out to the residents of Andover who were affected, and to their loved ones who witnessed the storm from afar. Many of our unit members live in Andover, making the 184th Wing part of the community. It was a difficult weekend for all of us, but we’re confident in the strength, courage, and servanthood that define the character of Kansans.
As Andover recovers and rebuilds, the 184th Wing’s Fighting Jayhawks will be prepared, equipped, and willing to help in any way we can.
