FROM OUR PROUD PAST TO OUR BRIGHT FUTURE The 184th Intelligence Wing has a proud history and a wealth of tradition. The unit was activated the first time to Federal service in 1941 during WWII, then again for the Korean Conflict, and again for the Viet-Nam Conflict.
In April 2008, the 184th Air Refueling Wing, flying the KC-135R tanker since 2002, was re-designated the 184th Intelligence Wing with a new mission, making it the first Intelligence Wing in the Air National Guard.
The 184th Intelligence Wing Team
The wing has a myriad of specialized missions complemented by a dedicated team of Headquarters and Mission Support Group personnel. Mapower, civil engineering, supply, security, finance, services and a headquarters staff make up the foundation supporting our wing's unique blend of missions.
Defense Support to Civil Authority (DSCA) Guardsmen respond to natural disasters in 19 nearby counties providing communications, security, medical, civil engineer, chaplain, and chem/bio expertise. A variety of equipment is available to include generators, lights, heaters, trucks, and communication equipment.
Kansas STARBASE Kansas Guardsmen and DoD instructors teach math and science to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students during regularly occuring two week STARBASE academy classes. Community Impact: 7,600+ Kansas students have graduated, 81 schools within six counties have participated, 27% Improvement In Pre & Post Flight Tests, and 75% Gain Positive Attitude Toward Math/Science
A 57 person command section providing leadership, inspection, command post, safety, finance, public affairs, equal opportunity, legal, and chaplain services for the entire wing.
Mission Support Group (MSG)
A 270 person group providing security, human resources, communications, civil engineering, contracting, and logistical services to enhance the wing's mission readiness.
The 184 MSG includes the following organizations and offices:
184th Civil Engineer Squadron A rapidly deployable team of highly skilled professionals providing facility and support infrastructure maintenance, repair, and construction; environmental compliance; emergency management in support of federal and civilian authorities; bare base beddown; and base or community recovery after attack or natural disaster. Civil Engineer team includes the following specialties: electrical, power production, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, heavy equipment operators, structural, utilities, pest management, engineering, operations, and emergency management.
184th Force Support Squadron Dedicated professionals serving all wing members and their families by providing a full spectrum of human resource management, quality of life, and family readiness services such as recruiting, training, meals, fitness, awards, recreation, lodging, retention, mortuary affairs, and family preparedness. Provides prompt, courteous, and reliable customer service; advises unit leadership on a range of force management and quality of life issues; and trains and maintains both Prime Readiness and Personnel Contingency Operations Teams for worldwide contingency operations.
184th Logistics Readiness Squadron Responsible for the integration of distribution, vehicle maintenance, material management, and contingency support capabilities within the operational environment. Our goal is to provide the 184th Intelligence Wing with "world class" logistics support by ensuring personnel, supplies, vehicles, and equipment are delivered to meet all mission requirements, to include seeking the most innovative technology and equipment to enhance work processes, for our customers.
184th Security Forces Squadron Providing professional and ethical Security Forces services during war and peace to our Wing, the State of Kansas, and the United States of America. Ensuring Security Forces Members, Security Forces Ravens, and Combat Arms personnel are fully trained, equipped and physically fit to accomplish their duties. Adhering ot the highest levels fo personal and professional conduct, the 184 SFS values ethical behavior, devotion to duty, problem solving, personal and professional development, innovation, and creativity.
184th Communications Flight Providing technologically advanced, state-of-the-art communications support services to the most diversified IT missioned wing in the Air National Guard, and critical DSCA support to the state of Kansas for emergency disaster responses. Communications airmen are trained to provide support for voice, data and video transport (wired & wireless) systems, real time /near real time radar and satellite imagery, and all internal and external connectivity required for real world operations. Also monitors and supports Information Assurance security programs, communications equipment tracking, circuit requisitions/installations and Information Knowledge operations for sustaining web-based requirements and postal functions. All efforts are focused to provide the best possible communications services to the modern warfighter and state communities.
184th Contracting Office A 3 person office provides local purchase contracting support necessary to support the wing's missions. Contracts for supplies, equipment, services, and construction are awarded to commercial firms to satisfy customer requirements. The office ensures contracts comply with public laws and regulations, and provides acquisition advice, assistance and information to the Wing's unit commanders.
Regional Support Group (RSG)
With over 600 personnel and seven different squadrons, the RSG is the largest and most diverse group in the Air National Guard. The mission of RSG is to "provide full spectrum warfighting support". The RSG accomplishes this through a broad range of capabilities from building munitions, providing battle space control, to bandwidth management.
The 184 RSG includes the following organizations:
134th Air Control Squadron Tasked to provide a world-wide deployable battle space management platform providing tactical level support of air operations planning and execution. The squadron operates the Modular Control Equipment (MCE) Radar and Link-16 Data link Gateway to provide surveillance and airspace control. Their wide range of communication skills and capabilities are critical to net centric warfare, as well as to the Kansas Air National Guard's Defense Support to Civilian Authorities (DSCA) mission.
177th Information Warfare Squadron Integrates advanced tactics, training, technologies and tools to provide full-spectrum threat assessments to participating Department of Defense units. This squadron, attached to the 57th Aggressor Wing at Nellis AFB, Nevada, identifies physical and network vulnerabilities and provides solutions through vulnerability assessments visits and red team operations.
127th Command and Control Squadron Functions as a component of DoD's command communication and coordination network. Serves as the backbone for global command and control.
184th Munitions Squadron Rapidly provides war fighting commanders with aircraft munitions and weapons release equipment to meet worldwide contingencies and conflicts. Tasked to receive, inspect, maintain, and deploy Standard Air Munitions Packages and Standard Tanks, Racks, Adapters, and Pylons Packages (STAMP/STRAPP).
299th Network Operations Support Squadron High tech operations providing real-time network security to 106,000 Air National Guard users at 300 locations. Manages network defense; generates an enterprise situational awareness picture; manages network configuration; provides information assurance for all ANG networks. Serves as the network helpdesk for application and system issues throughout the entire ANG enterprise.
Detachment 1, Smoky Hill Air National Guard Range Oversees the largest and busiest ANG bombing range in the nation. Smoky Hill encompasses 51 square miles of training space with over 100 tactical targets and electronic warfare range. Located 10 miles west of Salina, KS, Smoky Hill provides realistic combat training for military aircraft and ground forces from all the military services. Also provides unmanned aerial vehicle support for selected users.
284th Air Support Operations Squadron The primary mission is to provide direct support, utilizing air resources, for Army ground maneuver units. Provides combat-ready Tactical Air Control party assets for combat maneuver units. Advise Army commanders on the capabilities and employment of air power, ensure its synchronization into the ground commanders' battle plan, and provide terminal attack control for close air support (CAS) missions.
A 72 person group providing combat ready medics to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and combatant commanders. Also provides professional medics for DISA, FEMA, Homeland Defense and the State of Kansas while supporting the 184 IW's goal of combat readiness for the Wing. MG consists of four divisions: Aerospace Medicine, Dental, Health Services, and Medical Operations.
184th Intelligence Group (IG)
Cyber Warfare - Intelligence - Information Technology. The men and women of the 184th Intelligence Group deliver near real-time intelligence around the globe to our nation's war fighters.
Specializes in the exploitation of combat sensors. Teams of analysts fuse multiple sources of data to provide war fighters timely, tailored situational updates on the battlefield, in urban warfare, and in undpredictable environments. The IG is expanding from the MQ-1 "Predator" ops into the complex realm of U-2 and RQ-4 "Global Hawk" Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations.
The IG operates as part of the Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) to accomplish their mission. DCGS is a worldwide, network-centric architecture that conducts collaborative intelligence operations which processes, exploits, and disseminates actionable information. It provides for both the physical and electronic distribution of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance data and products. DCGS provides a continuous on-demand intelligence system enabling American and coalition forces to get the information needed to take action and influence events in hours, minutes, or even seconds.
